Family Lifestyle Photography — Lydiard Park, Swindon
Lydiard Park on an April morning in 2025. A blonde woman in a long red dress with white embroidery and a denim jacket. A young girl in a pink and white gingham dress with a unicorn motif who had a precise and non-negotiable view about which direction she wanted to run. Two brown-and-white Springer Spaniels who had even stronger views about everything.
The session covered the open parkland, the woodland clearing, the footbridge over the stream, and finally the walled garden path. Three hours. One family. Everything the day provided.

THE OPEN PARKLAND — THE RUNNING SEQUENCE
The girl running toward the camera across the open parkland: this is the sequence that every outdoor family session is ultimately trying to produce. The specific quality of a child who has been told the photographer is there but has entirely forgotten it, running because running is the correct response to an April morning at Lydiard Park.

THE WOODLAND CLEARING
The woodland clearing gave the session its best portrait light: dappled, directional, the canopy doing the work of a softbox at a fraction of the cost. The woman in the red dress against the ivy-covered tree trunk. The mother and daughter holding hands, both Spaniels in attendance. The child on the forest floor, the mossy bank, the specific quality of a five-year-old entirely at home in a wood.

THE FOOTBRIDGE AND THE GARDEN
The footbridge over the stream at Lydiard gave the session its most atmospheric single images: the young blonde woman with sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat leaning on the wooden rail, the water dark below. The walled garden path — brick herringbone, overhanging greenery — produced the session’s most composed closing frames: the woman and the girl, lying on their stomachs on the brick, both of them entirely relaxed.
