Before the World Changes

Four looks. Five backdrops. Approximately thirty-eight weeks. The session with Natasha and her partner covered more visual ground than most maternity sessions attempt: from a dark floral dress silhouette through black lingerie on a clean white floor to a black sequin gown against a black backdrop, and finally a flowing white dress on a saturated yellow seamless.

THE WHITE FLOOR

Against the clean white studio floor, the black lingerie produced graphic contrast that frames the bump as the compositional centre of every image. The partner’s hand at the edge of one frame — giving the intimacy context without reducing it to a couple portrait.

THE BLACK SEQUIN GOWN

Against the black backdrop, the sequin gown catches the studio light and returns it as hundreds of individual reflections, the bump pulling the fabric into a shape that makes the pregnancy physically present in every frame. This is not a conventional maternity photograph — it is a glamour portrait of a pregnant woman, which is a different and more honest thing entirely.

THE YELLOW BACKDROP

The yellow seamless produced two distinct registers: the black tank top pulled down to expose the bump with ripped blue jeans (maternity as lived life), and the white flowing dress with the partner above her (the most cinematic image of the session).
